Animal Affinity

My fish is unwell, I just spent an hour trying to hand feed him, very very carefully. I just want him to know that I am there with him, I think he does, I hope he does. I wish animals and humans could talk. I suppose we just have to trust each other.

These photos are taken by Robin Shwartz. They are of her daughter Andrea, and their life with animals. They bring me comfort, in my fish sadness.

Here is a lovely excerpt from Robins website about her exhibition Animal Affinity:

One of the prettiest girls I know sent me this collage. She and Big Sur seem to be attracted to each other, like attracts like... beauty shines.

I am now to read a book that the prettiest girl told me about. She tempted me with a quote:

"at dawn its majesty is almost painful to behold. That same prehistoric look. The look of always. Nature smiling at herself in the mirror of eternity"

It's soul searching time in my land. What better way to indulge in life then with a book with wondrous light.

I strongly agree with everything this very entertaining Sir Ken Robinson says, I think we all do, or should. I know my life would be different if I was given more of a chance to be who I wanted to be as a child- through education. It's beyond time for a change- imagine if dancing was a compulsory subject from the age of a wee one! I promise, the world would be more joyful.

It was my little sisters 21st birthday this month, so my family and I decided we wanted to throw a party to show her how special she is.
These parties can get a bit awkward sometimes especially when you have different sides to the family... So I thought it would be fun to send an 'Instructional Dance Video' out as part of the invitation to all the guests... to invite them to practice the choreographed moves in the comfort of their own living room... hehehe.

Here is a snippet from the DVD I sent out:

I am clearly pretty comfortable with making a fool of myself.... but hey- it worked!!!

Here is THE BIG DAY. Zange's 21st birthday DANCE at my Mama's Organic Vineyard:

I have to note that I mostly thought of the actual day getting everyone together and how it would turn out- opposed to the events that occoured when everyone would receive their Instructional Dance Videos in the letterbox to practice... I thought most people would see the joy and casual energy to it- but I was completely overwhelmed with phone calls emails and text messages of hilarity...

One call was from a family friend I hadn't spoken to in years- he is in the army and had come home to visit his mum for Easter... he came home to a living room door shut with music blarring from it- he opened the door to find his mother doing The Sprinkler in front of the television.. giggling like a child that she had been caught in the act! Priceless. The caller said to me he just had to contact me to tell me how fabulous an idea it was and how much they laughed...

My great aunt who is 80 this year lives alone... I received two hilarious emails from her requesting advice on how to get up off the floor after the 10th time of falling over...!

I would have loved to have a camera in her living room watching her work out the moves in front of her television... She was AMAZING on the day!

My other aunty called me to tell me her husband and 3 children had just finished dancing in front of the television, and that they were all out to buy themselves some gold shiny leggings for the big day. She said they laughed and laughed...

My mama wet herself watching the instructional sillyness, my cousins perfected it turning up ready and ROARING to show their new moves, my Grandma had her son and grandchildren helping her in the living room learn the steps, my best friend rolled around laughing and then proceeded to film HERself doing her new moves to give me a giggle too...

So many stories... what a magical day! Week!

I know it wasn't the actual dance that made the party as special as it felt, it was just a reflection of my shining light of a little sister and what she creates in her life everyday.

It was a realy wonderful thing to do together, and look back at one day too.

I went to a great party down near the beach recently and there was a bubble machine... Fairy lights lining the balcony stage where the bands played, and bubbles floating through the dance floor... it was quite an amazing night...

I would love a bubble machine in my house, next to the jumping castle...

I love Time Lapses... it makes me feel like I am watching... something of a higher universe- i think. It's that it takes reality and messes with your concept of time- i suppose.

This Time Lapse is extra special because it is done with a tilt-shift lens... it makes everything look like a miniature land- but it is really our everyday land... just manipulated...

This is Dallas Clayton's first book... and it is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen.

It is such an important and INSPIRING message for kiddies, AND adults! Clayton says on his website that it made 8 out of 20 readers cry.

The photo is taken by Debi Treloar... Debi's biography says she is originally from Zimbabwe, and that she studied art and then photography. Debi now lives and works in London.

I thought you might enjoy this little video... Allan Watts is a bit wacky... but if you can get past that- he has some beautiful things to say.

He was well known as a light along the way for many, someone who grew up in the early 1900's learning the names of wild flowers and butterflies, playing beside streams, and performing funeral ceremonies for birds. He become a philosopher, writer, speaker, and student of comparative religion. He was best known as an interpreter and populariser of Asian philosophies for a Western audience.

He wrote more than twenty-five books and numerous articles on subjects such as personal identity, the true nature of reality, higher consciousness, meaning of life, concepts and images of God and the pursuit of happiness, relating his experience to scientific knowledge and to the teachings of Eastern and Western religions or philosophies (Zen Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Hinduism, etc.).

Joe seems to be based in Portland, Oregon.

I SAW ON MY FRIENDS NOTES TODAY THAT SHE HAD BEEN ASKED TO WRITE 25 THINGS THAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT HER... SHE ASKED ME TO DO THE SAME... I'LL GIVE IT A WHIRL~

1. I cry a lot, from the beauty of things... Any glint of someone sharing any kind of emotion gets me. I even cry watching Worksafe ads... But witnessing passion, and love, are two that especially make the tears drip of my chin... people are so beautiful.

2. I used to be in a special maths class- but it was not special as in needing help- i was taken out of Primary school to attend an elite maths school- short lived... THANK GOD!

3. 3 Is how many times I kiss my family on the cheek when we say hello and good bye.. I will never kiss a person only twice, it's three times for good luck. Thank you Nan!

4. I can do the Moonwalk.

5. I am scared of most things- not as bad as when I was a kiddy, I just push through it now- but I still fear a lot. I used to compulsively check three times under my bed, in all of my cupboards, behind the door, in between the crack of my bed and the wall... all possible places 3 times every night. Then I would barricade myself with my five bestest teddys- i strategically placed them around my heart and my ovaries... I didn't move much when sleeping as a kid.

6. I believe in re-incarnation. And I would love to have some regression therapy...

7. I have lived in 14 houses.

8. I used to have bugsy teeth- I could fit TWO $2 coins between my two front teeth and I had a 10mm overbite...!

9. I play the Viola. I used to play the violin- I started when I was 4...

10. I have a Nintendo DS and I LOVE playing it!

11. I still have dreams of being an actress even though every week on Joke day at work- when I have to 'perform' my joke of the week- my heart stops and I have to read from the bit of paper.. It feels like everyone can actually see the burning sensation in my chest- i hope they can't...

12. My doggy named Frog is a bundle of joy that blesses my life every single day.

13. I listen to Techno when I do my banking.

14. I think children are the most perfect of all! They are an inspiration to who we should remember to be, and who we are- pure.

15. My wardrobe is worth more then... and it's not at all the price that is important to me... i just love beautiful things- and have a friend that is very good at justifying anything i like and its absurd price tag... bargains excite me just as much though.

16. My colleagues at work are like family to me. I miss them dearly whenever we have breaks... i love them all very much.

17. My mum is a Dance Movement Therapist/Reike Master/Hippie and my Father is a Scientist... opposites attract? They are divorced...

18. I want to eat my dog,

19. I have a 7-ft 6 Malibu and would love to be able to really surf on it... and do a headstand, eventually.

20. I think that meditation should be compulsory in hospitals for all recovering patients. And that all the walls should be repainted something brighter!!

21. I have made 6 short films of my own... and many many more are on their way. I want to moooooove people. In ALL directions ; )

22. I think everything happens for a reason.

23. I do breathing exercises and write 21-pieces of gratitude every single morning to start my day.

24. My sister is my soul mate.

25. I am overly indulgent in every area of my life. And I think that's a good thing.

I reflect that I have not mentioned my love Raphael- kindest man ever made. Then I realised why- this is all the things that people might not know about me... xxx
